Customer Portal: Cost Visibility for Clients

Overview

The Spotto Portal is a focused, customer-facing experience for spend and commitment visibility. It lets an MSP or parent organization give customer users the useful parts of a cloud review without exposing the full operating Portal.

Portal access is permission-based. A user sees only the Portal views enabled for their company and role.

What customer users can see

The Portal can include these views:

ViewWhat it provides
DashboardSpend summary cards, monthly spend, top cost drivers, savings opportunities, resource spend, spend breakdowns, and commitment visibility.
Cost TreeHierarchical spend exploration for the subscriptions the customer can access.
Cost AnalysisSpend changes and cost-analysis context in the customer Portal.
CommitmentsReserved Instance and Savings Plan inventory, coverage, renewals, and planning context.
Export and ShareLinks back to exportable Portal views where export access is enabled.
Portal AccessCustomer enablement and role information for users allowed to manage Portal access.

Each view has its own access decision. Enabling the Portal does not automatically give every customer user access to every row in the table above.

Use the customer dashboard

  1. Open the Portal section and select Dashboard.
  2. Choose the subscriptions to include.
  3. Review the spend cards and monthly spend chart.
  4. Use Top Five to switch between cost drivers, savings opportunities, Reserved Instance recommendations, and resource spend.
  5. Follow Cost Tree or Commitments when you need the detailed view.

The dashboard uses ready subscriptions in the selected company. Empty cards or sections mean the required billing, resource, billing-tree, or commitment data is not available for the current selection yet.

Understand access behavior

  • A Portal-only user is sent to the first Portal view they can access after sign-in.
  • Portal-only users see the Portal navigation section instead of the full Spotto navigation.
  • A standard Spotto user can see the Portal section alongside other sections when the customer Portal is enabled for their company and role.
  • Direct links are checked against the same access rules. Knowing a URL does not grant access.

Portal access controls Spotto pages; it does not replace Azure permissions or determine whether source data has completed processing. Read Portal Access and Permissions for the application access model.

Export and access limitations

The current Export and Share page links to the Dashboard and Cost Tree. It also shows Monthly Cost Summary and Account Review Pack cards, but those two cards do not currently provide a download action in the Portal UI.

The Portal Access page summarizes customer-level enablement, customer roles, and MSP preview scope. It is available only to users with permission to manage customer Portal access.

Troubleshooting

The Portal section is missing

What you're seeing: The main navigation does not include Portal.

Likely causes:

  • The customer Portal is not enabled for the selected company.
  • Your role does not include access to any Portal view.

How to fix:

  1. Confirm the selected company is the intended customer company.
  2. Ask an administrator to check the company's feature sets and your assigned role.
  3. If you administer access, review Feature Sets.

A Portal page redirects to another view

What you're seeing: A direct link opens the first available Portal page instead.

Likely cause: Your role does not include the requested Portal view.

How to fix: Use the views shown in the Portal navigation or ask an administrator to review access for the missing view.

The dashboard has no spend data

What you're seeing: Spend cards, monthly bars, or breakdowns are empty.

Likely causes:

  • No ready subscription is selected.
  • Billing or billing-tree data has not completed processing.
  • The selected subscriptions do not have data for that section.

How to fix:

  1. Check the subscription selector and choose a ready subscription.
  2. Ask the account administrator to review cloud-account sync status.
  3. Refresh after processing completes.
