Spotto Autopilot Browser Extension
The Spotto Autopilot extension brings recommendations and insights directly into the Azure Portal—right where you work. No need to switch between tabs or copy resource names. Open a resource in Azure, and Spotto shows you what matters.
What It Does
When you browse resources in the Azure Portal, the extension injects Spotto data directly into the page:
- Resource costs — See what each resource is costing you
- Performance metrics — View utilization and performance data at a glance
- Cost optimization — Get recommendations to reduce spend
- Security insights — Surface security best practices in context
- Custom recommendations — See Spotto's AI-powered suggestions tailored to your environment
For example, open a Virtual Machine and instantly see its monthly cost alongside recommendations for rightsizing, reserved instances, or security improvements.
Installation
The extension is available for Chrome and Edge (same extension works for both):
Steps
- Click the link above to open the Chrome Web Store
- Click Add to Chrome (or Add to Edge if using Edge)
- Confirm the installation when prompted
- The Spotto icon appears in your browser toolbar
Setup
Before the extension can show recommendations, you need to connect it to your Spotto account.
Prerequisites
- A Spotto account with at least one connected Azure subscription
- The browser extension installed
Connect Your Account
- Click the Spotto icon in your browser toolbar
- Sign in with your Spotto account credentials
- The extension connects to your Spotto data
Once connected, navigate to the Azure Portal and browse to any resource. The extension automatically displays relevant Spotto insights.
Using the Extension
Resource Pages
When viewing a resource in the Azure Portal (like a VM, Storage Account, or SQL Database), the extension adds a Spotto panel showing:
- Current cost for the resource
- Performance metrics
- Applicable recommendations
- Links to more details in the Spotto Portal
Supported Resources
The extension works with most Azure resource types, including:
- Virtual Machines
- Storage Accounts
- SQL Databases
- App Services
- Kubernetes clusters
- And many more
If a resource type isn't showing Spotto data, it may not be fully supported yet. The extension continues to expand coverage.
Privacy & Security
- The extension only activates on Azure Portal pages (
portal.azure.com) - Your Azure credentials are never accessed - the extension uses your Spotto account
- Data shown comes from Spotto's analysis, not direct Azure API calls
- No browsing data outside Azure Portal is collected or transmitted
Troubleshooting
Extension not showing data
- Verify you're signed into the extension (click the toolbar icon)
- Check that the Azure subscription is connected in your Spotto account
- Refresh the Azure Portal page
- The resource may not have been analyzed yet - new resources can take up to 24 hours to appear
"Not connected" message
- Click the Spotto toolbar icon and sign in
- If already signed in, try signing out and back in
- Clear browser cache and cookies for
spotto.aiif issues persist
Data looks outdated
Spotto analyzes your Azure environment periodically. Cost data typically updates daily, while recommendations refresh as changes are detected. For the most current data, check the Spotto Portal directly.
